[Meeting] 09-13-2012

Good afternoon, hackers!

Tonight’s meeting will serve two purposes: First, we need to decide on a direction for the team, and figure out what we want to accomplish this year. Second, well… this is a hacking team right? As always, there we be plenty of hacking!

Administrivia We want to know what YOU, the members, want to learn… and what you hope to get out of being part of the Student Infosec Team.

Topics of discussion will include (but are not limited to): - Goals of the team - Participation in CTF events - Different types of hacking we can do - Guest speakers - Personal project presentations - Campus outreach - Future meeting time/day - Monthly SwampSec security meet

On to the hackery… We’ll be showing off some of the cool features of this year’s DEF CON badge … and maybe even demoing a few things we were able to get it do. Something about Space Invaders… :P

Oh yea… and we have some schweet new (to us) networking hardware to play with!

Good afternoon, hackers!

Tonight, we will revisit the OWASP Broken Web App VM that we poked at earlier this month. With this one, we’ll at least have some idea where to begin (it helps having a list of known exploits and hints to pwn them). This will hopefully be more of a “real world” example than the DEF CON CTF VM we tried last week.

If you’d like to read up on relevant material before the meeting, the OWASP Top 10 is a good place to start: http://owasptop10.googlecode.com/files/OWASP%20Top%2010%20-%202010.pdf Oh, and please don’t look for write-ups to solve the challenges… it kind of defeats the purpose of the exercise.

As an added note… this time, we should have everything set up and running before the meeting begins. Sorry for making y’all wait last week.

Location & Time 6:00pm - 8:00pm 1151 McCarty Hall A http://campusmap.ufl.edu/?loc=0495

[Meeting] 08-23-2012

Good afternoon, hackers!

I hope y’all had a good Summer… because I sure did. Those of you who went to DEF CON this year know what I’m talking about ^_^ Something about a pool hanging over the side of a $30,000/night Sky Villa and leaving Caesar’s Palace at 6:00am… yea we had fun :-)

Anyway… this evening, we’re going to have some pseudo CTF fun. And, by that I mean we’re going to attack the official DEF CON XX CTF VM. Mauricio and I will have some sort of shoddy local networking set up and connected to the VM for your hacking pleasure. Please come prepared with a computer and some flavor of *NIX installed (Local, VM, LiveCD, etc). We’ll provide the CAT5 ;-)

Hope to see y’all in a few hours! Location & Time 6:00pm - 8:00pm 1151 McCarty Hall A http://campusmap.ufl.edu/?loc=0495

[Meeting] 08-02-2012

Good afternoon hackers!

At tonight’s meeting, I’m going to brag about how awesome Las Vegas and DEF CON were last week. It was my first time, so I was all like “OMG I love you, DEF CON! Let’s be together forever!” or something like that…

I’ve got photos and crazy stories to tell, as well as some neat swag and conference materials (music, presentation files, and other neat stuff that we got in our goodie bag) …and (of course) the prized DEF CON XX badge – if anyone has a soldering iron and/or a miniUSB cable, please bring it/them!

Oh… and make sure to bring a flash drive or something if you want files :)

Location & Time 6:00pm - 7:30pm 1151 McCarty Hall A http://campusmap.ufl.edu/?loc=0495
