SIT Meeting 2-18-2015

Hello SITers,

This week we will be learning about how the port scanner nmap works by taking a look at some C code and doing some buffer overflow challenges for another prize! If you would like to download the challenges ahead of time you can find them here: https://github.com/ufsit/overflowchallenges-2-18-2015.

Password for gpg will be released at the meeting.

Hope to see you there!

SIT Meeting 2-11-2015

Hello there SITers! This week we will be taking another look at stack based exploitation. We worked on this last semester, but it’s a good idea to become familiar with this before we move on to harder exploits like format string vulnerabilities and heap based attacks.

Hope to see you there!

SIT Meeting 2-4-2015

Hello SITers!

This week we are going taking a closer look at how processes are organized in memory and learn a bit about DLL injection! The bulk of the presentation will be about a project I did where IDA was used to reverse engineer a malware sample and turn the assembly back and to a C program that can be compiled and run in Visual Studio. If you can’t make it out to the presentation you can read a full writeup of the project here: http://sheepshellcode.com/blog/2015/02/01/dll-injection-on-windows-xp/

After the presentation, we are going to pick up where we left off and solve a few challenges again. I really want to get rid of that book! Since the third challenge was broken last time expect a slightly harder one to take its place.

SwampSec Security Meetup - 1/28 @ 7pm

Hello SIT members. It’s time again for SwampSec. The general announcement is below but in addition to it, I’ll have a small tab setup for drinks if you’re into that sort of thing. Hope to see you Wed.

We’re picking back up after a long break caused by the holidays. There’s been lots going on in the infosec world and it seems like everyone is hiring… including my employer (InGuardians). Come on out for an hour or two to hang out and talk all things security.

Since Stubbies closed, we’ve only had one meetup at the The Back Yard Bar and it worked out well with the available food/drink options from the bar and Boca Fiesta (but we’re still open to other suggestions). If you don’t know where it is, The Back Yard Bar is located between Boca Fiesta and the Palomino Pool Hall next to the Hippodrome.

Where: The Back Yard Bar

When: 7pm 1/28

SIT Meeting 1/21/2015

Hello SITers,

This week we will be taking a closer look at some of the tools described by atlas and getting hands on with some x86 binaries! To encourage everyone to solve them as fast as they can, we will be giving out a signed copy of “Hacking Exposed 7” to the first person to email me all the keys after the challenges are released.
